About Sundarkand Path
What is Sundarkand Path?
Sundarkand Path is the recitation of the Sundara Kanda of the Ramayana — Hanuman’s leap to Lanka, his meeting with Sita and the burning of Lanka — sung from Tulsidas’s Ramcharitmanas or read from Valmiki’s Ramayana, for courage, success and the removal of obstacles.
Sundara Kanda is the chapter of hope: Hanuman finds Sita and brings news that Rama will come. Reciting it is believed to bring Hanuman’s protection and relief from difficulties. North Indian families sing Tulsidas’s Sundarkand with bhajans; Telugu and Tamil families read Valmiki’s Sundara Kanda, often over several days.
